The collection contains 96 albumen prints of scenes in Wise County, Va., primarily near Big Stone Gap and Stonega. Many of the scenes are of railroad yards, tracks, maintenance facilities, coke ovens, tunnels and cuts. Others depict individuals, workers, coal miners, families and groups, including some African Americans. Identified buildings include the Intermont Hotel and the home of Rufus A. Ayers, Big Stone Gap, and the Stonega House, Stonega.
